Non Slip Rug Pads

Non slip, or anti slip, rug pads are available as solid pads and ones with holes in them, as many of us have seen. While both types can prevent rugs from slipping, there are differences in the way each contributes to the protection of rug and floor.

An open weave non slip, or no slip, rug pad has holes in it. This type of no slip pad can be found in almost paper thin thickness to about 1/4 of an inch thickness. Here, the thinner ones are less expensive and truly do not hold up well. Most of these non slip rug pads are made of a polyester or pvc material and are coated to provide the non slip feature.

There is also a solid jute and rubber non slip pad that works well at preventing slipping while also adding a foundation for your rug. This non slip pad is more comfortable to walk on than the ones with holes as it is solid and about 1/4 of an inch thick. Differences in this type of pad are within the actual materials used for each one.

Non Slip, No Slip, Anti Slip Open Weave Rug Pads

If you're only intention is to prevent slipping temporarily, then choose the least expensive one of these pads and be prepared to dispose of it within a few months. This will usually stop working within that time frame and may even start to mark your floor. This type of pad is made of polyester or pvc and is sprayed with an adhesive to give it a sticky, or non slip, effect. Unfortunately, this spray wears off and the the pad stops working and marks your floor.
For those looking for a thinner non slip pad that will last, try a natural rubber or organic pad that contains natural oils. Both of these non slip pads are safe for your floors and truly keep rugs from slipping for years.

Solid Jute and Rubber Non Slip Pads
For a more substantial foundation under your rugs, there is an excellent rug pad made of jute and rubber. The jute surface holds your rug while the rubber bottom grabs to the floor. There are plenty of these available and many contain a spray latex on the bottom to offer a rubber like feel. This can harm your floors as the spray starts to wear off. It is worth spending a little more on a recycled jute and solid, natural layer of rubber. This type of rug pad will last for years while being safe to your floors.
